- Shorts
YouTube | WhitelistVideo |
|---|---|---|

What is WhitelistVideo? Here's how it works, and why YouTube's own settings can't limit your child to the channels you approve. Stick around for a better, more secure way to set it up.
WhitelistVideo means every YouTube video is blocked by default. Your child watches only the channels and playlists you approve.
Parents do it so kids get real YouTube without random videos, endless Shorts, or channels nobody has checked.
You need the WhitelistVideo parent app, your child's device, and a few minutes to pair it with a six-digit code.
In WhitelistVideo, add your child, pair their device with the code, then approve the channels they can watch. Shorts stay off unless you turn them on.
Here's the catch. YouTube's own settings filter by age and follow the signed-in account. If your child signs out, that falls away, and you block channels only after spotting them.
Your child watches real YouTube, but only approved channels play, even when they're not signed in to YouTube.
If your child finds a channel they want, they tap Ask Parent. You approve on your phone, and it unlocks on their device in seconds.
WhitelistVideo, a SourceForge Top Performer in parental control software, is one of the best parental control apps for YouTube.
