Do YouTube parental controls work in incognito? Here's the answer, and why YouTube's own settings don't carry over to a private window. Stick around for a better, more secure way to set it up.
Incognito means a private window that starts signed out, without the settings saved in that browser.
Parents ask because a setting that disappears in a private window isn't really protecting anyone.
YouTube's way needs Restricted Mode in every browser, a supervised account, and private windows off in the device's controls.
In YouTube, open Settings, General, and turn on Restricted Mode. A private window won't remember it.
Here's the catch. YouTube's settings live in the browser and the signed-in account. A private window has neither.
With WhitelistVideo + Family Safety on Windows, or + Screen Time on Mac, Incognito is closed off, and only an administrator can remove it.
On every paired device, approved channels play and everything else stays blocked, even when your child isn't logged in.
WhitelistVideo, a SourceForge Top Performer in parental control software, is one of the best parental control apps for YouTube.
