Filtering by category means you pick the kinds of videos your child can watch, like Science and Tech or Animals and Nature, instead of approving every channel.

Parents do it to say yes to whole topics, without hunting down every good channel first.

With YouTube's own tools, you need your parent Google account, a supervised account or YouTube Kids, and a content level by age.

Here's the catch. YouTube's content levels sort videos by age, not by topic. You can't say yes to science and no to gaming, and the levels follow the signed-in account.
