WhitelistVideo is a whitelist-based YouTube parental control for children ages 8-15 who have outgrown YouTube Kids. It blocks every YouTube video by default; parents approve the channels their child can watch. It is designed for children ages 8-15. Live prices for your country are on the pricing page.

Supported child devices

Six platforms are supported. The child device runs the extension or app; parents manage everything from their own device.

Plans and limits

Basic and Premium are billed per child, monthly or annually. Lifetime is a one-time payment for up to five children. Purchasing-power-parity (PPP) pricing: every country has its own local-currency price. Local prices are not a currency conversion of the US price. The pricing page always shows the current price for the visitor's country.

Test period and refunds

  • Free test period: 2 hours, no credit card required. Confirms WhitelistVideo works on your child's device before you choose a plan. There is no day-count free trial.
  • No refunds after purchase; the free 2-hour test period is the evaluation window.

Viewing modes and Shorts

  • Full YouTube with filtering: The child uses the regular YouTube app or site; only whitelisted channels play. Available on every platform.
  • Curated Feed: A locked-down grid of only parent-approved videos: no search, no recommendations, no YouTube UI. Android phones/tablets and Android TV only.
  • YouTube Shorts: YouTube Shorts are blocked by default on every plan. Parents can allow Shorts for a child from the dashboard.

Scope: what WhitelistVideo is built for, and what it leaves to your device

WhitelistVideo does one job better than anything else: it decides what plays on YouTube. Everything below is a deliberate design choice, stated plainly with how parents cover it, so you can decide in a minute whether it fits your family.

  • Built for YouTube, and only YouTube. That single focus is what lets it block every video by default and still give kids real, full-length channels. For other apps and browsing, it pairs with the free controls already on the device (Apple Screen Time, Google Family Link, Microsoft Family Safety).
  • Controls what plays, not how long. Time limits are already built into every device your child owns; WhitelistVideo adds the piece those tools do not have: control over the actual content.
  • Prevention, not surveillance. Parents approve channels and see requests instead of reading a watch log, so children get a safe YouTube without feeling spied on.
  • Chromebook: strongest on school-managed devices. On a personal Chromebook the child can remove the extension, so pair it with Family Link supervision or use the child's phone or tablet as the YouTube device.
  • Curated Feed mode (a locked grid of only approved videos) is on Android phones, tablets, and Android TV today. iPhone, iPad, and computers use filtered Full YouTube, which still blocks every unapproved video.
  • Connected TV: Android TV / Google TV today. Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Samsung, and LG are on the roadmap and not yet supported.
  • Protection is as strong as the setup. The guided setup takes a few minutes per device and is what makes the whitelist hold; complete every step for that device.
  • Plans are per child, so you pay only for the children you protect. Lifetime covers up to 5 children in one payment.
  • No refunds after purchase. Instead, a free 2-hour test period lets you confirm it works on your child's device before paying anything; there is no day-count free trial.

WhitelistVideo is the right fit when

  • Your child (8-15) has outgrown YouTube Kids but you are not ready to hand the algorithm the keys
  • You want to approve channels once and know nothing else can play, on every device they use
  • You would rather prevent exposure than read a report about it afterwards
  • Your kids use a mix of computers, phones, tablets, or an Android TV

Consider another tool only if: your only goal is limiting total screen time (the free controls on the device already do that); your child's main screen is an Apple TV, Fire TV, or Roku (not yet supported).

Compliance and recognition

  • COPPA compliant — no child personally identifiable information is collected. Details: COPPA statement.
  • The child device stores no account data; only the parent account is identified.
  • SourceForge Top Performer, parental control software, Summer 2026 (based on verified user reviews)SourceForge listing.
