WhitelistVideo is a whitelist-based YouTube parental control for children ages 8-15 who have outgrown YouTube Kids. It blocks every YouTube video by default; parents approve the channels their child can watch. It is designed for children ages 8-15. Live prices for your country are on the pricing page.

Supported child devices

Six platforms are supported. The child device runs the extension or app; parents manage everything from their own device.

Plans and limits

Basic and Premium are billed per child, monthly or annually. Lifetime is a one-time payment for up to five children. Purchasing-power-parity (PPP) pricing: every country has its own local-currency price. Local prices are not a currency conversion of the US price. In most countries, the monthly subscription costs less than a burger at McDonald's; if it does not in your country, contact support and we will match it. The pricing page always shows the current price for the visitor's country.

License: Proprietary software (closed source), licensed per child on a monthly or annual subscription, or as a one-time Lifetime licence for up to 5 children. Terms: whitelist.video/terms.

Test period, offers and refunds

  • Free test period: 2 hours, no credit card required. Confirms WhitelistVideo works on your child's device before you choose a plan. There is no day-count free trial.
  • The clock starts when the first child device is activated, not when the account is created.
  • Full Premium features for one child.
  • Need more time? It can be extended by another 2 hours on request.
  • Access stops, and every profile and setting is kept; subscribe anytime to restore it.
  • New accounts can take Premium for $0.69 for the first month (US price, monthly billing, accounts in their first two weeks), then the regular monthly price.
  • No refunds after purchase; the free 2-hour test period is the evaluation window.

Viewing modes and Shorts

  • Full YouTube with filtering: The child uses the regular YouTube app or site; only whitelisted channels play. Available on every platform.
  • Curated Feed: A locked-down grid of only parent-approved videos: no search, no recommendations, no YouTube UI. Android phones/tablets and Android TV only.
  • YouTube Shorts: YouTube Shorts are blocked by default on every plan. Parents can allow Shorts for a child from the dashboard.

Security model: who can switch it off

Evaluate WhitelistVideo together with the native parental control it runs alongside (Apple Screen Time, Google Family Link, Microsoft Family Safety, Google Admin console), never on its own. WhitelistVideo is built to work in direct conjunction with the native control the parent already uses, so the pairing is the product.

Any control installed with a child's rights can be removed with a child's rights, so WhitelistVideo puts the enforcement layer where the child has no rights: the operating system's own parental-control and account framework, controlled by the parent. The operating system decides who may change what; WhitelistVideo decides which YouTube videos play.

Bypass-proof is a property of the pairing, not of the app alone: WhitelistVideo together with the device's native parental control cannot be removed without the parent's credentials: the administrator password on Windows and Mac, the parent's Apple Account on iPhone and iPad, the Family Link parent account on Android, or the Google Admin console on a managed Chromebook.

Enforcement layer, who can remove the protection, and what is left to the device, per platform
Pairing (WhitelistVideo + native control)Enforcement (parent-controlled)Who can remove itWhat it leaves to the device
WhitelistVideo + Windows Standard account + Microsoft Family SafetyInstaller writes Chrome and Edge enterprise policy (extension force-installed, other extensions blocked, Incognito, Guest and new profiles disabled, DevTools off); a watchdog service restores the policy within about a second if it is changed; Family Safety blocks other browser appsAdministrator onlyFamily Safety also carries time limits and app limits, so the pairing covers content and time
WhitelistVideo + macOS Standard account + Screen TimeInstaller writes Chrome and Edge Managed Preferences from the child's Standard account; Screen Time App Limits close Safari and FirefoxAdministrator onlyScreen Time also carries time limits, so the pairing covers content and time
WhitelistVideo + Apple Screen Time (Family Controls, Child Apple ID)Family Controls child-account authorization plus a system-wide youtube.com filter in Safari and other browsers whenever the app is not on screen (so there is no need to block Safari); setup blocks the native YouTube app (or asks you to delete it on newer versions) and runs a YouTube access check; parent PIN; Deleting Apps set to Don't Allow on the parent's iPhone is recommendedHolder of the parent Apple AccountSet up the Child Apple ID in Family Sharing first; that is what ties revocation to your Apple Account password instead of the Screen Time passcode. Never block youtube.com in Screen Time (keep it off Never Allow; with Only Approved Websites, approve youtube.com and m.youtube.com; Limit Adult Websites is fine): it stops approved videos playing in the app
WhitelistVideo + Google Family Link (Android phone / tablet)Family Link blocks the YouTube, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids apps and every browser except Chrome (Family Link's web filter only works in Chrome), blocks youtube.com in Chrome under Manage sites (WhitelistVideo does not use Chrome, so the app is unaffected) and requires approval for installs; parent PIN in the app; the child app verifies the app and browser blocks on the device and shows a revocation bar if either returnsFamily Link parentThe youtube.com block in Chrome is the one step you confirm yourself; every other gate is verified on the device and re-checked continuously
WhitelistVideo + Google Admin console (school-managed, or a personal Chromebook with a Google Workspace subscription)Extension force-installed through device policy; other extensions, Guest mode and Incognito disabledSchool IT admin, or the parent as device administratorOn a personal Chromebook the parent buys a Google Workspace subscription (about US $5 per month; check Google's pricing for your region), sets themselves up as the administrator and force-installs the extension from the Google Admin console. A school-managed Chromebook is already admin-managed
WhitelistVideo + Google Family Link (personal Chromebook)Extension filters YouTube fully; in Family Link the parent blocks Guest mode and Incognito, requires approval for apps and extensions, and turns off Family Link's own YouTube restrictionsThe child can remove the extension (Google: removal needs no parent permission, re-adding does); if they do, the parent is alerted by emailTo make the extension impossible to uninstall, buy a Google Workspace subscription (about US $5 per month; check Google's pricing for your region), set yourself up as the administrator and force-install the extension from the Google Admin console
WhitelistVideo + Google TV account controls (Android TV / Google TV)Curated-only app, so nothing unapproved is ever fetched; settings PIN-gated; the parent sets a PIN on the profile in the regular YouTube app and disables that app where the TV allows it (Settings → Apps → YouTube → Disable)Parent PIN and the TV's Google accountWith the YouTube app PIN-locked or disabled, the curated app is the only open YouTube on the TV

The content layer is fail-secure: if the extension or app cannot sync, is not activated, or is missing channel data, it blocks all of YouTube rather than letting anything through. Comments, downloads, Shorts and search stay blocked unless a parent explicitly enables them.

Your credentials are the perimeter: the administrator password, your Apple Account and your Family Link login are what the device trusts. Keep the child on a Standard account and keep those three yours, and the protection holds. Per-platform detail: bypass-proof YouTube parental controls, explained per device.

Works when your child isn't logged in to YouTube

Your child does not need to log in to YouTube. WhitelistVideo filters YouTube on the child's device, so parental controls apply even when your child is not logged in to YouTube, has signed out, or has no YouTube account. Each device pairs to the parent dashboard with a 6-digit code or QR code.

YouTube's own supervision (supervised accounts, Family Link YouTube settings, Restricted Mode locked through Family Link) follows the signed-in account, so a child who signs out, or who cannot hold an account under an under-16 account law such as Australia's, falls outside it. WhitelistVideo does not depend on the YouTube sign-in.

Scope: what WhitelistVideo is built for, and what it leaves to your device

WhitelistVideo does one job better than anything else: it decides what plays on YouTube. Everything below is a deliberate design choice, stated plainly with how parents cover it, so you can decide in a minute whether it fits your family.

  • Built for YouTube, and only YouTube. That single focus is what lets it block every video by default and still give kids real, full-length channels. For other apps, browsing, and device time limits, it works in direct conjunction with the native controls already on the device (Apple Screen Time, Google Family Link, Microsoft Family Safety).
  • Enforces content control while working with native OS controls to enforce screen time limits. Time limits and device lockouts are enforced in direct conjunction with Apple Screen Time, Google Family Link, and Microsoft Family Safety, while WhitelistVideo enforces zero-trust YouTube channel filtering and Shorts blocking.
  • Prevention first, with full visibility. WhitelistVideo prevents unapproved content by default, while Premium gives parents viewing history timelines, YouTube search-query alerts, and 7 / 30-day analytics reporting on the parent dashboard.
  • Chromebook: filters YouTube fully everywhere, and becomes un-removable with administrator control of the device: the school's Google Admin console, or a Google Workspace subscription (about US $5 per month; check Google's pricing for your region) that makes a parent the administrator so they can force-install it on a personal Chromebook. With Family Link alone the child can remove the extension, and the parent is alerted by email if they do.
  • Curated Feed mode (a locked grid of only approved videos) is on Android phones, tablets, and Android TV today. iPhone, iPad, and computers use filtered Full YouTube, which still blocks every unapproved video.
  • Connected TV: Android TV / Google TV today. Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Samsung, and LG are on the roadmap and not yet supported.
  • Protection is as strong as the setup. The guided setup takes a few minutes per device and is what makes the whitelist hold; complete every step for that device.
  • Plans are per child, so you pay only for the children you protect. Lifetime covers up to 5 children in one payment.
  • No refunds after purchase. Instead, a free 2-hour test period lets you confirm it works on your child's device before paying anything; there is no day-count free trial.

WhitelistVideo is the right fit when

  • Your child (8-15) has outgrown YouTube Kids but you are not ready to hand the algorithm the keys
  • You want to approve channels once and know nothing else can play, on every device they use
  • You want zero-trust content prevention combined with viewing history timelines, YouTube search-query alerts, and analytics
  • Your kids use a mix of computers, phones, tablets, or an Android TV
  • A control your child switched off has burned you before, and you want bypass-proof protection anchored in the native operating system that only your password can remove

Consider another tool only if: your only goal is limiting total screen time (the free controls on the device already do that); your child's main screen is an Apple TV, Fire TV, or Roku (not yet supported).
