How to install WhitelistVideo advanced protection on Mac
Add Advanced Protection to your child's Mac to prevent bypassing WhitelistVideo.
Critical Step: We strongly recommend Advanced Protection. Without it, your child can easily disable the extension or use a different browser.
What do I need for Mac advanced protection?
- Your child's Mac (macOS 10.15 or later)
- Administrator access on the Mac
- About 5 minutes
How to download the Mac installer
On your child's Mac
- Open Chrome

Click Download for Mac

The file downloads to your Downloads folder

How to run the Mac installer
Find the downloaded file

Open Finder
-
Click Downloads in the sidebar

Find WhitelistVideo-Setup.dmg

Double-click the file
Open the Installer

Double-click the installer icon
Security prompt
You may see: "WhitelistVideo can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer"
To allow it:

Click Cancel (don't click OK)

Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older Macs)

Go to Privacy & Security

Scroll down to find "WhitelistVideo was blocked"

Click Open Anyway

Click Open in the popup
Why this appears: macOS shows this for apps downloaded outside the App Store. WhitelistVideo is safe to install.
How to complete the installation
Follow the Steps

Welcome screen: Click Continue

License agreement: Read and click Agree

Set a password:
- Enter a password you'll remember
- This protects Advanced Protection settings
- Write it down somewhere safe

Enter your Mac password: The installer needs administrator access

Wait for installation to complete (about 1 minute)

How to grant Mac permissions
macOS requires you to approve some permissions:
Screen recording permission

A popup appears asking for Screen Recording access

Click Open System Settings

Find WhitelistVideo in the list

Toggle it On

Enter your Mac password if asked
Accessibility permission

Another popup may ask for Accessibility access

Important: Advanced Protection won't work fully until you grant these permissions.
How to verify Mac advanced protection is working
After installation:

Restart Chrome (close all Chrome windows and reopen)

Try to disable the WhitelistVideo extension:

chrome://extensions - The WhitelistVideo toggle should be grayed out
- Go to

Try to open YouTube in Safari:
- Open Safari
- Go to YouTube.com
- You should see a blocked message
What does Mac advanced protection do?

How to change Mac advanced protection settings
To change Advanced Protection settings:

Click the WhitelistVideo icon in Chrome

Click Settings or the gear icon

Click Advanced Protection

Enter your password

Make your changes
How to uninstall Mac advanced protection
If you need to remove Advanced Protection:

Open Finder
-
Go to Applications
-
Find WhitelistVideo Uninstaller

Double-click to run it

Enter your password

Follow the prompts
The extension will still work, but can be disabled.
Mac advanced protection troubleshooting
The installer won't open
- Make sure you followed the security steps above
- Try downloading the file again
- Make sure you have administrator access
I can still disable the extension
- Restart Chrome completely
- Check that you granted all permissions
- Try restarting the Mac
YouTube still works in Safari
- Make sure Safari is fully closed and reopened
- Check that Advanced Protection is running: Menu bar → WhitelistVideo icon
- Grant all requested permissions
