Understanding Insights

See how WhitelistVideo is protecting your child with real-time stats, viewing trends, and a weekly AI-generated report.

Where to find Insights

  1. Open the Parents' App at app.whitelist.video (opens in a new tab)
  2. Select your child using the child switcher at the top
  3. Tap Insights in the bottom navigation

Protection Score

At the top of the Insights page, you'll see your child's Protection Score — a number from 0 to 100 that reflects how well-protected their YouTube experience is. The score is calculated from four dimensions:

DimensionWhat It Measures
Content filteringIs a protection level active? Are channels approved?
Platform coverageHow many of your child's devices have WhitelistVideo installed?
Engagement controlsAre Shorts blocked? Comments hidden? Player controls configured?
MonitoringAre notifications enabled? Is the messaging bot connected?

A higher score means more layers of protection are in place. Tap the score to see a breakdown of each dimension and suggestions for improvement.

Safe viewing stats

Below the Protection Score, you'll see key stats at a glance:

  • Videos protected — total number of videos that were filtered (approved or blocked) by WhitelistVideo
  • Safe viewing percentage — the proportion of watched videos that came from approved channels
  • Time saved — estimated time your child didn't spend on unapproved content, based on blocked video attempts

Daily watch time chart

A bar chart showing your child's YouTube watch time over the past 7 days. Each bar represents one day, so you can spot trends — are they watching more on weekends? Has daily viewing time changed?

Top categories

See which content categories your child watches most. Categories include things like Education, Entertainment, Gaming, Music, and Science & Technology. This helps you understand what your child gravitates toward and whether it aligns with your expectations.

Recent searches

A list of recent search queries your child has typed into YouTube. This gives you visibility into what they're looking for — even if the resulting videos were blocked.

Search tracking requires the Chrome extension. Search queries are captured by the browser extension and sent to your dashboard. They are not available on mobile-only setups.

Weekly AI Report (Premium)

Premium subscribers get a Weekly AI Report — an AI-generated summary of your child's YouTube activity for the past week. The report includes:

  • A narrative summary of what your child watched and how much
  • Highlights of any blocked content attempts
  • Trends compared to the previous week
  • Suggestions for new channels based on viewing patterns

The report is generated once per week and cached — it won't change until the next week's data is available. Look for it at the bottom of the Insights page.

⚠️

Premium only. The Weekly AI Report is available on the Premium plan. Free and Basic users see all other Insights features but not the AI report. Upgrade to Premium to unlock it.

Sample data for new users

If your child's account has fewer than 14 days of viewing history, the Insights page shows sample data so you can preview what each section will look like. Once 14 days of real viewing data is collected, the sample data is replaced automatically with your child's actual stats.

What Insights doesn't show

  • Full video titles or thumbnails — Insights shows aggregated stats, not a full watch history
  • Other apps — Insights only covers YouTube activity filtered by WhitelistVideo
  • Real-time viewing — there may be a short delay (a few minutes) before new activity appears
