Which setup is right for you?
Mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, Android)
The child app provides a safe, filtered YouTube experience within the app itself. Your child watches YouTube through our app instead of the regular YouTube app.
Recommended: For complete protection, enable your device's parental controls to lock the app in place:
- iPhone/iPad: Use Screen Time to block app deletion
- Android: Use Family Link to supervise apps
Desktop computers (Windows, Mac)
Protection works through a browser extension in Chrome or Edge. For maximum security, install our lockdown package which:
- Forces the extension to stay installed
- Blocks access to extension settings
- Prevents using other browsers to bypass filtering
Recommended: Create a child user account on the computer for additional protection.
Chromebooks
Protection is extension-only since Chromebooks don't support installer packages. For managed protection:
- Personal Chromebook: Use Family Link to force-install and protect the extension
- School Chromebook: Contact your school's IT department about enterprise deployment
What you'll need
Before you start, make sure you have:
- Parent Dashboard access — Download the Parents' App (opens in a new tab) or use app.whitelist.video (opens in a new tab)
- A child profile — Create one if you haven't already
- Admin access — For desktop computers, you'll need administrator privileges to install the lockdown package
Protection levels explained
Basic Protection (Extension Only)
- YouTube filtering works
- Child could disable extension
- Good for younger children who won't try to bypass
Standard Protection (Extension + Installer)
- Extension cannot be removed
- Other browsers blocked
- Recommended for most families
Maximum Protection (Extension + Installer + Child Account)
- Everything above, plus:
- Child cannot install software
- Child cannot change system settings
- Recommended for tech-savvy children
